back track privacy policy
Who we are
back track is made by Labwhistle (Finlay Cassell), in the UK. Questions: support@labwhistle.com.
The short version
back track has no accounts, ads, analytics or tracking. Everything you do in the app stays on your phone. We never see your ratings, playlists or anything else, and we don’t sell or share data.
What stays on your phone
Your ratings, favourites, playlists, streak, discographies and settings are saved only on your device. They aren’t sent to us or anyone else. Deleting the app, or using “reset all progress” in Settings, removes them.
Album information from Apple
To show album details, track lists, artwork, charts and artist searches, the app asks Apple’s public iTunes and Apple Music services for them. These requests contain the album, artist or search words involved, not your name or any account details. Apple handles them under its own privacy policy.
Apple Music
If you choose “add to Apple Music”, the app asks your permission to use Apple Music, then uses Apple’s MusicKit to find the songs and create the playlist in your own library. This happens between your phone and Apple. We never receive your Apple ID, library or listening history. You can turn access off at any time in your phone’s Settings.
Notifications
If you turn on reminders, your phone schedules a notification each morning naming the album of the day. They’re set up on the phone itself, not sent from a server, and need no personal information. You can turn them off in the app’s Settings.
App updates
The app checks Expo’s update service for small updates. That check includes technical details such as the app version and your phone’s platform, and is handled under the Expo Privacy Policy. It doesn’t include anything about how you use the app.
Links to other apps
The Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube buttons open those services, which have their own privacy policies.
Children
back track isn’t aimed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Because we don’t hold any personal data about you, there’s nothing for us to access, correct or delete. If you have a question about privacy, email us and we’ll reply. You can also contact the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here and in the app with a new date.
